2007 Community Outreach

    WCAIO's Annual Dinner Fri Sep 7, 2007

THANK YOU to those of you who helped make our WCAIO's 2007 Annual Dinner a great success! We had more then 150 people in attendance and raised $51,000 dollars to help purchase 32 defibrillators for Milwaukee Public Schools(MPS).

Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler, MPS Superintendent William Andrekopoulos and Dr. Stuart Berger, professor of Pediatrics Medical College of Wisconsin, and others spoke to our members. We were excited to have them join us in this effort!

This event wouldn't have been made possible without several individuals from our community. The WCAIO would like to thank and recognize the following individuals for their help in making this effort a success:
  • WCAIO Board of Directors & Volunteers
  • Our event planning team, including Chair Yogesh Khatri and members Sharath Raja, Vinita Sawheny, Anup Khullar, Sadhna Morato-Lindwall, Susmita Acharya, and Kamal Shah
  • Shefali Vellecha for the fantastic dance ensembles and her young performers, including Harleen Kaur, Puneet Kaur, Pawan Kaur, Gurleen Kaur, Preeti Vallecha, Jimmy Singh, Paramjit Singh, Jasbir Singh, Kamajit Singh, Anmol Singh and Harmanjot Singh.
  • Sheetal Jaglan for designing and coordinating this year's fashion show.
  • Emcees Sadhna Morato-Lindvall, Dr. Sharath Raja, Sujata Sachdeva and Dr. Namrata Ahuja
  • The MPS Arts Combo Jazz band
  • A special thanks goes out to all the people in the audience who helped with their generous donations in making our 2007 WCAIO/MPS Defibrillator project a success. With your help, the WCAIO took yet another step forward in fulfilling it's mission of communication, cooperation and collaboration between the Asian Indians and the Wisconsin community at large.

About 350,000 Americans die each year from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. That's almost 1,000 per day. Every two minutes sudden cardiac death occurs. The American Heart Association and Red Cross report that the chance of survival has moved from 3% with CPR alone to 50% with Automatic External Defibrillator(AED) and CPR. Equipping each school with AEDs is MPS' goal. This year our community and WCAIO will join hands with MPS to achieve their goal.

Past programs undertaken by WCAIO in the Health initiative were Vision project 20/20 and Red Cross Disaster Relief Van. Please see attached Donation/Pledge Form for the "MPS Defibrillator Project 2007". Estimated cost for each defibrillator is $1,600. You may donate 1 or more units, or 1/2 unit or 1/4 unit or any other dollar amount. A family donating full unit(s) will have their name on a plaque along with the WCAIO logo on the defibrillator donated.

WCAIO will present the defibrillators to the MPS at Mahatma Gandhi Birthday Celebration on Sunday, October 7, 2007. The celebration, as in previous years, will take place at the Milwaukee County Courthouse in the India-America Friendship Park. Special guests invited include Gov. Jim Doyle, County Executive Scott Walker, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and others. Please see attached flyer for details.
